June Book Club Update!

Meet True Crime Author Dick Kreck at Authors Next Door Series Event, 9417 Huron Street

What: Colorado’s favorite true crime author, Dick Kreck, reads from his new book, Smaldone, during the next Authors Next Door Series event. Started by Italian brothers from North Denver, the high-profile Smaldone crime syndicate began in the bootlegging days of the 1920s and flourished well into the late 20th century. Through candid interviews and firsthand accounts, Kreck reveals the true sense of what it meant to be a Smaldone, and the mix of love and dysfunction that is part of every American family.

The event’s format includes a reading from the book and a cafĂ©-style discussion, allowing participants to interact with Kreck in an informal setting. Discussions will cover the notorious lives of the Smaldone family and their role in Denver’s history.

Who: Dick Kreck retired from The Denver Post after 38 years as a columnist. He is the author of four other books, including Murder at the Brown Palace. He lives in Denver, Colorado.
