Happy September, Club Members!
Hello Book Club Members! Are you ready for fall? The Labor Day holiday marks the traditional end of summer, if not the official end. As the heat of summer gives way to the chill of fall, there is more time to spend inside with a good book! Let us know what you’re reading.
Here’s what your fellow club members are reading:
Sheri E. says “I liked Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. It’s the story of twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a British surgeon in Ethiopia. I recommend it. Also, The Winner, a suspense thriller by David Baldacci. It was a fun read about a dirt-poor, 20-year-old girl in Georgia who can win a $100 million lottery, only if she changes her identity and leaves the U.S. forever.”
Sheri E. also makes these recommendations; “For the women, I’ve read The Shell Seekers and Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher and find her a good author.” She would like to know if anyone else has read any of her books.
Vi P. is reading Love You More by Lisa Gardner. She says “I didn't know it was part of a series, but it was a really good mystery! It was a nice change from what I've been reading.”
Lisa W. is reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin.
Katharine P. gives an enthusiastic recommendation for Bonnie Jo Campbell's Once Upon a River, (think Swamplandia , but in Michigan). She also recommends a rather weird and magical title by Steve Earle called I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive, a fictional account about Hank Williams' junkie doctor who witnesses miracles in the blighted areas of San Antonio! Katharine works at Anythink™ Library, and says to look for banned book displays at the Huron Street Anythink™.
